The Terry Report (1983) has resurfaced despite claims that all copies of it had been destroyed.
Aside from the fact it contained blatant lies and covered-up the abuse of children at Kincora Boys’ Home with the knowledge of MI5 and MI6, Terry engaged in a bout of victim blaming – in this instance blaming the children who were raped.
One of the boys who was raped on multiple occasions at Kincora had been broken while at Williamson House, also in Belfast. He was 8 years of age at the time. He was in his bed with a soft toy when a man entered the room, pinned him against a wall and raped him anally. Williamson House was run by Eric Witchell, who is still alive and living in London. Witchell was a friend of Joseph Mains and William McGrath who ran Kincora.
McGrath, the ‘housefather’ at the home earned the title ‘The Beast’ from the RUC officers who investigated his crimes.
Alan Campbell, another member of the gang, was about to be arrested by the RUC for the murder of Brian McDermott, a 10 year old boy, before a higher power intervened to thwart the prosecution. Part of the boy’s dismembered and charred torso was found in a bag in the River Lagan. The rest of his body – including his head – was never found. BBC NI interviewed some of the RUC officers who investigated the murder. A documentary about Alan Campbell and the murder was meant to have been broadcast in May of 2021. It is still being suppressed by the corporation.
Four other boys were abducted never to return home. Members of the paedophile gang which revolved around Kincora are the chief suspects in their abduction.
Another member of the gang was a sadistic Loyalist killer called John McKeague who was involved in so-called ‘romper room’ kidnappings. They involved the abduction of random Catholics from the streets of Belfast as a prelude to hideous torture and murder. McKeague was a violent child rapist according to one of his former victims. He was also fascinated by the occult.
Many of the boys who were violated went on to commit suicide.
The PSNI, NIO, MI5, MI6 and Whitehall continue to cover-up the scandal. Part of the campaign involves the vilification and portrayal of the survivors who have spoken out as liars and fantasists.
You would get no inkling of this from paragraphs 30 and 31 of Sir George’s report which asserts as follows:
“In homosexual offences, however, the victim is usually embarrassed and frequently feels some personal guilt or shame, but in a few cases also shares a measure of sexual satisfaction or pleasure.
As a consequence victims of homosexual acts are considerably less likely to make a formal complaint and even less inclined to tell others what had occurred; often even close friends of victims will be unaware of the offences committed because the victims will want to conceal from them ‘their guilty secret’.”
As the foregoing quote also demonstrates, Terry was unable to distinguish between child rape and homosexuality.
The Terry report is still mentioned favourably by commentators who wish to support the British government line that the only abuse perpetrated at Kincora was that of the staff; moreover, that no agency of the British government was aware of what was taking place at the home.
